Ceramics
Driving productivity in engineering ceramics
Optimised nozzle technology and alumina abrasive can change the economics of cutting hard, non-conductive ceramics.

From hours to a production shift
For selected hard materials, operations that previously required more than ten hours may be reduced to roughly one hour. Higher throughput can remove the need for extra shifts or additional machine capacity.
Measure cost per part—not cost per hour
Alumina may cost around EUR 140 per operating hour compared with roughly EUR 20 for conventional abrasive. But when cycle time falls by up to 90%, the final running cost per part can be around 30% lower.
Use the right process window
The strongest candidates include aluminium oxide, zirconia, magnesium oxide and glass ceramics. Conductive carbides are often better suited to wire EDM. Finepart application engineering selects the abrasive, nozzle and process around the actual material and geometry.
Precision cutting of ceramics
Finecut systems are designed for precision cutting of advanced and technical ceramics, including materials that are difficult to machine using conventional methods. Because the process is non-thermal and non-contact, it avoids heat-affected zones and reduces the risk of thermally induced microcracks and material distortion.
Depending on the material, thickness and geometry, finished-part tolerances down to ±10 µm and kerf widths of approximately 200 µm may be achievable. Each application is evaluated and qualified individually.
