Historic application · Medical
A long, delicate stent path in Nitinol.
A historic Finepart application explored cold cutting of a 0.40 mm Nitinol stent with a total cut length of 2,522 mm.
The challenge
Stent geometry combines long cutting paths with narrow features and a material whose functional behaviour must be protected.
Historic result
The published test reported an average cutting rate of 126 mm/min and a cycle time of 21.2 minutes. The cut was described as free from burr, oxide and slag, with no observed change to the material structure.
Production relevance
The original volume scenario was 5,000 parts per year. A current medical application would need renewed process validation and qualification for the exact design and quality system.
Historic application note: specifications and results reflect the machine configuration and test conditions used at the time. New applications are verified through a current test cut.
