Cold precision for metallic glass.
Vulkam selected a Finecut WMC500II 5X, type ABX to machine advanced amorphous-metal components with complex geometry while protecting material integrity.

The challenge
Vulkam develops and industrialises amorphous metallic alloys—also known as metallic glasses—for demanding applications in medical technology, watchmaking, luxury, aerospace and precision engineering. Their high mechanical properties require a machining process able to create intricate shapes without compromising the material.
“We needed a high-performance solution offering micron-level precision and total flexibility in cutting shapes.”
Xavier Cerutti · Technical Director, Vulkam
The Finecut solution
In the first half of 2024, Vulkam invested in a Finecut WMC500II 5X, type ABX. The non-thermal micro abrasive waterjet process gives Vulkam a flexible route to cold cutting, five-axis access and complex contours without a heat-affected zone.
The system forms part of Vulkam's development and production process for prototyping and precision manufacturing.
From installation to production
Vulkam reports that installation was completed quickly and that Finepart provided training and support. The team can produce complex geometries with clean edges and no material alteration, supporting repeatable work in advanced amorphous alloys.
“Finecut proved to be a game-changer for us.”
Sebastien Gravier · CEO and co-founder, Vulkam
